Lord Byron’s birthday – By British Embassy Athens

Lord Byron, the greatest British philhellene, was born on January 22 in 1788. To celebrate his birthday, on Wednesday 22 January, our  Ambassador John Kittmer hosted students from Byron College in Greece at the British Residence. He spoke to them about Lord Byron’s brilliant achievements and extraordinary life reflected in his emotion-stirring literary works. The students showed enthusiasm while admiring Byron’s famous portrait by Thomas Phillips. Later on, they visited Lord Byron’s statue by the National Gardens and laid a wreath in his memory. An inspirational experience for all!
